BTS with pianist Amy Zanrosso - from a San Francisco Headshot Photographer
When pianist Amy Zanrosso called me talk about her portrait session ideas I was so excited!! She was looking for a moody, yet natural photo of herself for promotion when touring and future opportunities. Being able to brainstorm and create something custom for her is what I love to do. We connected on ideas of photos that she loved sharing inspirational musicians who's photos she loved. She even included one of my photos of ones she would like. (that was quite an honour).
I noticed there was a pattern about the types of photos she was drawn to; they were all photographed in studio, they were clean, simple, and not a lot of background distractions and the subjects were gazing into the camera with confidence and poise. No cheesy smiles, no exaggerated emotions. The expressions were controlled. I proposed some example posses for Ms. Zanrosso and we used these as a stepping stone to create our own final photos.
Part of the process of creating the imagery was our wardrobe chats. We went over what would be best to wear exchanging photographs of what was in her armoire and what would be nice to add. The photo session itself was relaxed and fun. She came with her wardrobe and prepped her own hair and make up and we began our session capturing close up photos, medium distance, and full body. We tried different outfits, poses, and chatted about our common home country of Canada and all it's quirks.
In the end we created the perfect photos for her and captured the spectacular artist that she is.
