Teeth or No Teeth? Smile Tips from a top Toronto Corporate Headshot And Event Photographer
The question of whether to smile using teeth during a corporate photo shoot is one that comes up consistently, so I figured I would blog about it and put your questions at ease. Unless you have had modelling experience, many people are unfamiliar with the way their image is portrayed when captured professionally. My job is to capture the best, most natural version of yourself and here’s how you can help. This is not a post telling you to go to the dentist, though I highly recommend mine Dr. Aja Hall. Today I'm sharing how to look your best, most natural, and confident.
Are you normally someone who sports a toothy grin? Do you feel confident when your teeth are exposed? Or are you someone who prefers a sly grin? Do you have dimples that are exposed when you smile? Do your eyes naturally close or do you squint when you smile? Familiarize yourself with your smile and the way it manipulates your face by practising in the mirror before your shoot. Some people have fine lines or wrinkles that are emphasized by a bigger smile, or a double chin that reveals itself when smiling a certain way. Knowing these things about your own smile will help our shoot to go smoothly.
Sometimes the best smiles are revealed mid-laugh, so if you’re feeling nervous on the day of your shoot, prepare some mental jokes that will loosen you up or suffer through my attempts at comedy (hint: it’s pretty cheesey!).
Ultimately, there is no right or wrong approach. This isn’t a passport photo or mugshot, so have some fun, loosen up and bare those pearly whites (or don’t - it’s your call)!
